The news that STARZ has picked up a prequel to its popular romantic time-travel drama, based on the series of novels by bestselling author Diana Gabaldon, coincided with the announcement of Outlander’s eighth and final season. Another epic love tale will be the focus of the prequel, which will be called Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
That of Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, parents of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), and it occurs 20 years before Outlander premieres. According to showrunner and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts, “Outlander: Blood of My Blood is, at its core, a love story.”
It will examine the lengths people will go to in order to find love in a time when romance is viewed as a luxury and marriages are frequently arranged for political or financial reasons.
There will be some names and faces that Outlander fans will recognise, and the title is an homage to Jamie Fraser’s marriage vow to Claire Claire (Caitrona Balfe).
When will the film Blood of My Blood debut?
Hopefully, the series will premiere by 2024, yet it may not happen until 2025. It’s still in the early phases, and Roberts still has to supervise Season 8 of Outlander.
How many episodes will there be in the first season of Blood of My Blood?
Ten episodes will make up the Blood of My Blood season.
What do we know about Blood of My Blood’s narrative?
We know it was a forbidding marriage because Jamie Fraser revealed the details of the relationship between Brian and Ellen in season 1 to Claire. But despite the disapproval of Ellen’s family, Brian and an independent Ellen fell in love and wed.
Despite the fact that Brian was the son of Lord Lovat, he was despised for being a bastard. They fled during the Great Gathering as a result of Ellen’s brothers’ commitment to give her hand to another.
Gabaldon revealed to the audience at the Edinburgh International Book Festival last year that she has already offered tale ideas for the upcoming programme.
Since the first part of their story takes place during the 1715 Jacobite Rising, Gabaldon noted, “We know the beginning of their story because Jamie told it in Outlander, but of course there is a lot more to tell.” There will be a lot of clan politics and other interesting stuff because the plot is intertwined with the Jacobite Risings.
Unsurprisingly, Gabaldon is also writing a book, which has not yet been given a title.
Gabaldon stated, “I have produced a three-page description of what I believe to be the beginning of the novel. They are working off what I given them, which they did. I’ll show them the chapters of the book I’m writing in the interim. They will make use of what they have.
All of that is presuming the show is approved. If it occurs, I will undoubtedly take part in Gabaldon has also published an excerpt from the untitled book, which is too long to present here but is available on her website.
Who will appear in Blood of My Blood as a character?
In the first season of Outlander, Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies), who was whipping Jamie, introduced us to Brian Fraser. Brian passed away as a result of his amazement at how his son was being handled. Andrew Whipp played Brian back then, but since the prequel will show a much younger Brian, the character will need to be recast.
Because she passed away when Jamie was still a young child, many years before the events of the books and the series, Ellen MacKenzie has never appeared in any of the six seasons of Outlander.
Ellen’s sister Jocasta MacKenzie
Ellen’s brother Dougall MacKenzie
Bro. Colum MacKenzie of Ellen
Brian’s second cousin, Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser: The one thing that didn’t change about Murtagh after we grew to love him in the Outlander series—he passed away at Culloden in the books, which is years before it happened on the show—was his deep, unrequited love for Ellen.
Other candidates include Ellen’s other sisters Janet and Flora, Brian’s two half-brothers Simon and Alexander, and his father Lord Lovett.
Diana Gabaldon’s involvement in the making of Outlander: Blood of My Blood will be how much?
The prequel will be produced by the same creative team that brought Outlander to the big screen. Both the executive producer and showrunner of Outlander, Matthew B. Roberts, and another EP from Outlander, Maril Davis, will reprise their roles for Blood of My Blood. In addition, Ronald D. Moore, who created Outlander from a book to a series, will serve as EP, with Diana Gabaldon serving as the show’s consulting producer.
Who is on the Blood of My Blood production team?
Roberts will be joined by Maril Davis as a member of the Blood of My Blood team. Ronald D. Moore, who created Outlander for television, and Davis will also executive produce the prequel under their production company Tall Ship Productions.
