explained: How many marriages has Claire Fraser had in the series?
Three marriages have been celebrated by Claire, the first to Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies).
Before the Second World War started, the pair got married, and Claire was serving as a field doctor in France. Frank, her spouse, stayed in England and was employed by the intelligence services. Fans will recall that at the beginning of Outlander, Frank and Claire were reuniting in Inverness for their second honeymoon.
Strange events, nevertheless, transported Claire back through the stones to the 1700s, when she first met Jamie, her second husband.
Suspected of being an English spy, Claire was compelled to marry Jamie for her own safety.
Although the two were essentially strangers, they eventually fell in love, and their chemistry signalled the beginning of an intense and seductive romance that would last forever.
But only book readers might know that Claire is married to a third man. After learning that Jamie had lost his dear life at sea when his ship was trapped in a violent storm, a distraught Claire married Lord John Grey (David Berry).
Once more, when the American Revolutionary War intensified, she got married to protect herself. The marriage of the pair was brief after Jamie reappeared very much alive and was filled with rage at his wife and best friend for having betrayed him.
Claire was remained legally bonded to the Highlander, hence her marriage to Lord John was nullified by Jamie’s resurrection.
This was a reflection of Jamie’s union with Laoghaire MacKenzie (Nell Hudson), following Claire’s time travel.
