As it is the case with all good stories, Outlander’s eighth season, will also be its last, bringing the epic, romantic, time-travel narrative based on best-selling author Diana Gabaldon’s books to a close.
In the video posted on X, Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser, remarks, “It’s been an incredible journey,” and Caitríona Balfe, who plays Claire, adds, “We hope we do you proud.”
“We’re going to go out with a bang and tell the story the way it should be,” says Young Ian’s actor John Bell. President of STARZ Original Programming Kathryn Busby announced the news of the final season, saying, “We’re delighted to bring Claire and Jamie’s epic love story to a proper conclusion. Outlander has won the hearts of audiences worldwide for nearly a decade.” However, there is still more to discover about this vibrant world and its history, as well as more of their impassioned tale to tell over the course of 26 new episodes, before we end this chapter.
The actual location of that story is unknown at this time. A Breath of Snow and Ashes and An Echo in My Bones, Gabaldon’s sixth and seventh books in the series, will serve as the basis for Season 7’s sixteen episodes. However, until the season premieres, it is difficult to predict what will happen next.
The eight and nine volumes, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood and Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, respectively, will probably form the basis for Season 8’s ten episodes. However, Gabaldon is now working on book 10, which may or may not conclude Jamie and Claire Fraser’s love story. She hasn’t yet promised to respond to that query.
Thus, we’ll simply have to wait and see if Season 8 will conclude the stories of Jamie and Claire as well as those of Brianna (Sophie Skelton), Roger (Richard Rankin), and Young Ian. However, it appears like Gabaldon will have a say in how the show ends.
When will Season 8 of Outlander be available?
Although the eighth season of Outlander is still in the writers’ room, we can only speculate as to when it will premiere—possibly in 2024—until actual filming begins.
What’s in store for Season 8 of Outlander?
Once more, this is all conjecture, but the Revolutionary War will be well underway. Young Ian will either be engaged or married, Roger and Brianna will have returned from the future and be attempting to find their place in the 18th century, and Jamie and Claire will be involved in it in one way or another.
Will Outlander have a spinoff?
A prequel will be released, but there won’t be a sequel. The producers of Outlander, Matthew B. Roberts, Maril Davis, and Ronald D. Moore, have approved the production of the previously announced ten-episode prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, which will focus on the lives and love of Jamie’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie.
Although Gabaldon has not yet published the novel she is now writing, Outlander: Blood of My Blood is likewise based on an idea she came up with, but she undoubtedly contributed to the series.
The core of Outlander: Blood of My Blood is a love story. According to Roberts, showrunner and executive producer, “it will explore the lengths people will go to in order to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury and marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain.” “Outlander aficionados will recognise and recognise various names and faces, and the title alludes to Jamie Fraser’s marriage promise to Claire.
While season eight of Jamie and Claire’s TV series is drawing to a close, Diana is hard at work on book ten and carrying on with their literary journey in her fantastic book series.
There is still so much to come in the Outlander universe with Jamie and Claire and now Brian and Ellen, and we are excited to keep telling these stories to our devoted fans. Where is Season 8 of Outlander being filmed?
Like most of the previous seasons, Outlander is filmed in Scotland, which is a stand-in for America, with the exception of a few scenes in South Africa in Season 3.
Where can I watch Season 8 of Outlander on TV and stream it online?
Outlander Season 8 will debut on STARZ and the STARZ app, with new episodes most likely debuting on Sunday nights. Seasons 1 through 5 of Outlander are currently available for streaming on Netflix, Prime Video, and the STARZ app.
