The second half of season seven of Outlander will be the show’s return after its current pause.
The cherished historical drama, which is in its longest season yet, will take a lengthy turn before premiering the new episodes. But why is the season so lengthy, and when will the last eight episodes of the season air? This is what we know. ‘Maril Davis, the show’s executive producer, talked candidly with us about the season. “I receive a lot of inquiries about this online, and regrettably, I have no control over it. STARZ made the decision, and they clearly have their reasons; that’s a little above my pay grade!
“We just go in and we do what we’re told, we weren’t told in the beginning that there would be a break although we imagined there would be, there was probably going to be, but didn’t know for sure.”
The Outlander executive did, however, also admit that the show’s break was planned, saying, “We certainly built it assuming it would [break] after the eighth episode.” Fans have it quite difficult, I know. I’m not aware of every rationale behind these divides. All I can advise, though, is to fasten your seatbelt. It will be worth waiting.
It allows us extra time to go over things again! To be honest, the whole point of Outlander is suspense. Jamie and Claire’s marriage took seven episodes to consummate, and the highlight of this season is likely Jamie’s reunion with his son William. The entire theme of Outlander is anticipation, and Droughtlander is about to do just that!”
When will Part 2 of Outlander Season 7 air?
The second part’s trailer indicates that the show will return in 2024, however an exact airdate has not yet been announced. As the episodes have already been shot, we anticipate that it will happen early in the year, but stay tuned!
Will season eight of Outlander air later?
Maril stated that the show will be affected by the Writer’s Strike, adding, “We’re just on hold at the moment.” Everything has been put on hold while we were in the writers’ room for season eight and the prequel. I’m hoping it’s resolved soon. I hope it comes back, but it has delayed us. I would like to resume working with the writers, actors, and crew. You don’t want anyone to be unemployed for longer than necessary.
Following the mid-season break of Outlander and the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood, Caitríona made her most recent appearance. In June, Caitríona revealed to RadioTimes.com that there has been a delay in the production of the eighth and final season.
When inquired about the release date of the last installment, the actress said, “Well, we had a date.” Who knows, even with the writers’ strike going on? Thus, all we can do is wait and see.”
“That’s obviously a big thing that’s going on Stateside right now, and that may change things,” she said. However, you know, it’s too soon to begin making assumptions about it.”
Recently, executive producer Maril Davis provided fans with an update on development when HELLO! got up with him. “Right now, we’re just on hold,” she stated. “Everything has been put on hold while we were in the writers’ room working on season eight and the prequel. I’m hoping it’s fixed soon.”
Maril also clarified the reason behind Outlander’s current mid-season hiatus. “We certainly built it assuming it would [break] after the eighth episode,” she stated. “Fans must be quite struggling. I’m not aware of every rationale behind these divides. All I can advise, though, is to fasten your seatbelt. It will be worth waiting.

Jamie and Claire’s marriage took seven episodes to consummate, and the highlight of this season is likely Jamie’s reunion with his son William. The theme of Outlander is anticipation, and Droughtlander is no different.”
